Post Doctoral Fellows
ANUMEHA SAHA
Education: I hold all my major degrees (B.Sc, M.Sc, Ph.D) in Microbiology. During my Ph.D. tenure at IIT Kharagpur, India, I applied culture-independent methods to determine the composition and role of groundwater microbial communities in facilitating arsenic release into aquifers. I was also involved in collaborative projects focused on petroleum sludge remediation, microbial diversity in acidic mine tailings, and wildlife biology. As a Postdoctoral Fellow at MIGAL-Galilee Research Institute, Israel, I investigated microbial community shifts in pome fruits (pre-harvest and post-harvest) and the expression profile of a fungal phytopathogen in response to the application of microbial quorum quenchers.
Postdoctoral researcher: I started working as a postdoctoral researcher in the Haig Research Group in January 2025. I will be exploring the microbial diversity, culturability, and metabolic potential of microbial community members, including opportunistic pathogens found in drinking water distribution systems and deemed relevant to human health as part of Dr Haig’s NSF CAREER Award. Outside academic life, I enjoy reading books, illustrating, and exploring the art of embroidery.

Education: I completed my master degree in February 2017 and doctoral degree in the Graduate School of Public Health at Seoul National University in August 2023. During this time I did research exploring many microbial dynamics (e.g.,
My Ph.D. thesis title was “Unraveling ecology and zoonotic pathogens of wild animals in Korea by environmental fecal analysis using high–throughput sequencing”.
My Master thesis title was “Octanol–water distribution coefficients of fungal particles collected from the atmosphere”.
Postdoctoral researcher: I working as a postdoctoral researcher in the Haig Research Group from October 2023 - September 2024 working on assessing how water chemistry and plumbing design factors influence the virulence of nontuberculous mycobacteria.
